About the event

Join us for a screening of Aleister Crowley's The Rite of Mercury, a rock opera!

Sleeping beauty... and the Beast!

The rite is a tale of the Goddess Artemis enshrined in a dream like cage within the Chapel of the Holy Grail. In addition to adult and occult symbology, we will be discussing some of the correlations in this creative work at points during the showing. There will be an intermission in between acts.

This indie production debuted on stage in Seattle in 2008 and the live performance was released to video spring of 2009. The Rite is a beautiful and dreamlike, artistic, and rousing rendition of Aleister Crowley's original work. The Rite is about the dualities between dreams and reality. The lusty god Pan enters before the virtuous veil of virginal Artemis seeking to penetrate the veil. There is intrigue and suspicion! There is beauty and dreaminess to this fairytale! Can the forces of Pan penetrate the veil of the caged and sleeping Artemis? Will Artemis sleep forever or wake up? Learn the secrets of Luna and embrace the inner divine mysteries of the gods!

This is a BYOB/BYOW event. The event host requests a $10 donation at the door unless you are a member of the OTO. All are welcome! Dress in something dreamy or reminiscent of a fairytale if you desire, something befitting Artemis and Luna! Daydreaming encouraged ;)
